The title “Green or Secret Season” safari in Botswana refers to the period of the year when the landscape is lush and vibrant. We can not get enough of our beautiful colourful summer months between December and March. Our entire region transforms. The landscape becomes lush and a green paradise and with it babies are born, flowers are blossoming, the animal kingdom celebrates the new life.

Many guidebooks often refer to Botswana as best in our winter months between June and September. We love that time but we equally love the rest of the year. Every season has its advantages. Especially photographers benefit from amazing contrast, an exploding nature, offspring season with good chances to see predators hunt the newly born impalas. For birdwatchers Botswana becomes a haven during green season. Migratory birds flock to our part of the world and the wetlands and waterways are teeming with a wide variety of bird species.

Speaking of birds, traditionally here in Maun we place bets on when we will hear the first call of the Woodlands Kingfisher. You can’t miss their “chipppp chuuurrrpp” calls from November until the end of March.
