In 2026 Botswana celebrates an important national milestone: 60 years of independence on 30 September. To honour this moment, Safari Specialists has created a special hosted safari that brings together wildlife, community, and the people who have travelled with us over the years.
This journey is more than a safari. It is a celebration of Botswana, shared with guests who appreciate the landscapes, wildlife and communities that make this country so special.
Throughout the journey, members of the Safari Specialists team will host different sections of the safari, sharing their knowledge, stories and personal connection to the places we visit. It is a rare opportunity to experience Botswana alongside the people who live and work here.
A Safari with Purpose: Supporting Feed A Child
A central part of this journey is giving back.
Safari Specialists has supported the “Feed A Child” programme for many years. The initiative provides daily meals to children in local communities around Maun, helping ensure they receive the nutrition they need to learn and grow.
Guests joining this safari will visit the Chanoga community where the programme takes place. During our visit, we will celebrate Botswana’s independence together with the children and families involved in the programme.
Importantly, all profits from this safari will go directly to supporting the Feed A Child initiative and related community projects.
These projects aim to create long term benefits for the local community
Planned initiatives for 2026 include:
• Installing a JoJo water tank at the school
• Establishing a vegetable garden with shade cloth and irrigation
• Providing seeds to support sustainable food production
• Building a simple playground area for children in the community
These efforts support the long term sustainability of the programme and strengthen the relationship between conservation tourism and local communities.
Safari Journey Highlights
This hosted safari combines meaningful local experiences with exceptional wildlife viewing in some of Botswana’s most beautiful areas.
Maun: Local Experiences and Community Visits
The journey begins in Maun, the gateway to the Okavango Delta. Here guests will spend time exploring the town and taking part in authentic local experiences. Highlights include the Maun Immersive Tour, a visit to Elephant Havens elephant orphanage, and time in Chanoga Village where the Feed A Child programme supports children in the community. These experiences offer a deeper understanding of life in northern Botswana beyond the traditional safari.
Moremi Game Reserve: Private Mobile Safari
From Maun the safari continues into the wilderness with three nights on a private mobile safari in Moremi Game Reserve. Moremi is one of the most wildlife rich areas of the Okavango Delta. Guests will explore this remarkable landscape on guided game drives, searching for lions, elephants, wild dogs and an extraordinary variety of birdlife. Evenings are spent around the campfire under wide African skies, enjoying the timeless rhythm of a classic safari.
Nogatsaa Pans: A Remote Corner of Chobe National Park
The journey then continues north to Nogatsaa Pans, a quieter and lesser visited area of Chobe National Park. This remote region offers a very different safari atmosphere. Wildlife gathers around the pans and surrounding woodland, creating unique viewing opportunities away from the busier areas of the park.
Chobe Elephant Camp: The Final Safari Experience
The safari concludes at Chobe Elephant Camp, overlooking the famous Chobe floodplains. Guests will enjoy game drives through the Chobe Forest Reserve and the opportunity to see the region’s well known elephant herds before the journey comes to an end. It is a fitting finale to a safari that celebrates Botswana’s wildlife, landscapes and communities.
A Shared Celebration of Botswana
This hosted safari is a special way to mark Botswana’s 60th year of independence.
It combines exceptional wildlife experiences with meaningful time spent with local communities and the chance to contribute directly to a programme that supports children in northern Botswana.
Most importantly, it is an opportunity to celebrate Botswana together.
We would be delighted to share this journey with you.
