Our Favourite Camps - Family Friendly

Okavango Delta - Young Explorer's Okavango Delta

3 meerkat rating

Go glamping family-style in your own private camp in the middle of the Delta. This specialised private safari keeps children and parents entertained from target practice and archery to tracking lion spoor and campfire cooking lessons. Back to nature: no electricity, no phones, no Wi-Fi - who could ask for more!

Chobe - Chobe Elephant Camp

3 meerkat rating

Chobe Elephant Camp is situated away from the busy Kasane area in an elevated setting looking out across the Chobe floodplains. With a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, this camp offers one an authentic experience in Chobe for a really good price. With a family chalet and some alternative activities including a visit to a local school and village as well as seasonal canoeing on the Chobe floodplains, this camp is an excellent family-friendly Chobe option.

Moremi, Khwai & Private Concessions - Machaba Camp

4 meerkat rating

Kids are so welcome they nearly run the place. With two huge family tents, a swimming pool and ultra-relaxed atmosphere, Machaba is the perfect family camp. The icing on the cake is the excellent game viewing year-round. Families travelling with children under six require private activities.

Savuti, Linyanti & Selinda - Lagoon Camp

4 meerkat rating

Friendly guides and staff create a relaxed atmosphere in big predator country at Lagoon Camp. The family tent enjoys its own corner of camp right next to the swimming pool - enabling the perfect ‘tire me out' combination of early morning game drives and swimming. Enjoy day and night game drives or cruise the Kwando River by boat. Younger families require private activities.

Makgadikgadi Salt Pans, National Park & Nxai Pan - Meno A Kwena

3 meerkat rating

Delightfully informal, a little quirky, Meno A Kwena is a firm favourite for a relaxing pre- or post-safari adventure. The dry season offers fantastic game viewing from camp and the floating hide, and kids will enjoy cooling off in the rock pool with an amazing view across to the Makgadikgadi National Park. The Bushmen are great ambassadors of their culture, sharing their traditions with humour and humility – show me any child that doesn’t want to learn how to make fire!

Central Kalahari - Dinaka

4 meerkat rating

Kids like something a little different and this is what Dinaka offers, a great contrast to the more game-drive-focused traditional safari areas. Game-viewing hides putting you only metres away from wildlife, a family-sized sleep-out deck with panoramic views AND a pretty cool Bushmen walk will get the family involved and engaged. These activities typically suit the dry winter season months as wildlife throngs to the waterholes dotted around the reserve, as opposed to your more traditional ‘Kalahari green season’ experience.

Victoria Falls - Victoria Falls Safari Suites

4 meerkat rating

Victoria Falls’ hidden treasure, the Victoria Falls Safari Suites come as 2- or 3-bedroom units that offer families complete freedom and independence from a very comfortable (in fact, quite luxurious) base. With Victoria Falls Safari Lodge next door, you’ve got the convenience of the hotel’s facilities including swimming pools, restaurants and a town shuttle bus to use at your own leisure.

Hwange - Somalisa Acacia

5 meerkat rating

Somalisa Acacia is the family-focused side of Somalisa Camp in Hwange National Park. Featuring two family tents and no age restrictions for children, it is ideal for those wishing to share a safari experience with younger kids. The classic-style tented rooms are enhanced by some special extras like a fireplace for cold winter nights as well as a welcoming big bathtub!

Mana Pools - Kanga Camp

3 meerkat rating

Not only is the waterhole game viewing (best in the dry season) an incredible treat, wait until you meet the elephants that wander through camp! With one of the few family tents in Mana Pools, Kanga is a great base from which to explore the wild beauty of Mana Pools National Park, focusing on game viewing by vehicle.

South Luangwa - Mfuwe Lodge

4 meerkat rating

Come here at the right time of year and the elephants come to see you! The wild mango tree, within the lodge grounds, is a popular treat for the elephants between September and December and you may get to see the elephants meander through the lodge reception to the tree. With several family rooms, Mfuwe Lodge is ideal for families with facilities and a safe environment that caters well for kids, yet still situated within South Luangwa National Park.

Lower Zambezi - Potato Bush Camp

5 meerkat rating

Potato Bush is a family-friendly camp offering spectacular panoramic views overlooking the Zambezi River in the heart of the Lower Zambezi National Park. The family tent is not your normal safari family tent – this one comes complete with a huge central living and dining area, a fully stocked fridge (to keep mum and dad happy) and a private balcony with a swimming pool. Game viewing is predominantly by vehicle and boat, unless the children are 12 years and over when they can join in on the canoeing and walking safaris as well.

Kruger Private Reserves - Sabi Sabi Bush Lodge

4 meerkat rating

Children of all ages are welcome at Sabi Sabi Bush, making this not only a downright fantastic lodge – offering complete luxury in a prime wildlife area – but one of the best family safari experiences. The Elefun Centre provides a supervised, interactive children’s facility offering a Junior Tracker programme for four- to eight-year-olds and a Junior Ranger programme for nine- to 12-year-olds.
