A new Botswana Tourism Development Levy has been introduced – effective from 1st June 2017 for all international guests, applicable at various entry points into Botswana.
Botswana Tourism has done amazing work for promoting Botswana as an internationally recognised safari destination, recently winning the Best Destination at the World Travel and Tourism Council Awards 2017. The implementation of the Botswana Tourism Development Levy will allow them to continue to promote tourism as a sustainable industry, which in turn supports communities and protects wildlife and ensure that the tourism benefits all
The Botswana Tourism Development Levy is $30 US per person and payable on arrival by USD cash or credit card (Master or Visa) electronically receipted, which is then presented with your passport to the immigration officer as you enter into Botswana. The machines are being set up at various international Airports in Botswana (Gaborone, Maun, Kasane) as well as at major tourism borders (including Kazungula into Zimbabwe and Zambia). SADC members and residents/citizens will be exempt from the payment.
